# Field Report 02: Routes Under Pressure

A systems report on contested routes, moving cargo, and the player decisions that turn Citadel's infrastructure into a living frontier.

A route in Citadel is more than the distance between two hubs. It is access to cargo, repairs, information, and the next opportunity. The moment that route becomes valuable, somebody has a reason to control it and somebody else has a reason to break that control.

## A route has to stay useful

Traffic creates pressure. Haulers need escorts, damaged crews need a safe return path, and opportunists watch the same corridors for an opening. Infrastructure matters only while ships can reach it, use it, and survive the trip home.

## Pressure becomes player work

When a corridor becomes dangerous, the consequences spread. Delivery prices rise. Escort contracts appear. Salvage accumulates where ships are lost. A crew can respond to that pressure, exploit it, or create more of it.

## The outcome remains

The goal is not to produce a sequence of isolated matches. It is to let each expedition leave evidence behind: cargo delivered, equipment lost, routes reopened, and rivals forced to adapt.

> The safest route is temporary. The valuable route is contested.
